OMNY could be the future, but right now it’s a shinier MetroCard with worse accountability. The MTA didn’t replace a piece of plastic; it replaced certainty with hope and a help page. Until OMNY is boringly reliable — no guesswork, no surprises — calling it a win feels premature. New isn’t better. Better is better.
